Moorea is a high volcanic island, 132 sq-km in size and lying just off the coast from Papeete making it easily accessible from the international airport. With over 12,000 people living mostly around the coast, Moorea is similar in size to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.
As a prime holiday destination, Moorea has plenty of accommodation although this can often be full on weekends and during local school holidays when city dwellers from Papeete arrive by the boat-load.
