Overview of Hotels in Fiji Islands
Of all the South Pacific island destinations, Fiji accommodation is the most varied and have by far the most tourist beds, more than all the other South Pacific Islands put together. You'll find some of the world's most exclusive private island resorts in Fiji, popular with honeymooners and celebrities, but equally you'll find rustic beach huts the rave of discerning travellers and large beach resorts bustling with families.
There's an excellent choice of accommodation all around the Fiji Islands including large international brand hotels, exclusive private island resorts for couples, lively beach resorts for families and budget huts for backpackers. Most resorts in Fiji are located on a secluded beach front, sometimes on an uninhabited island making them ideal for honeymoons or a romantic break. For those that like to move around, or have the freedom to enjoy independent restaurants, staying on the main island (Nadi, Coral Coast or Pacific Harbour) is a better option - at most island resorts there are no restaurants outside of the hotel and no means of exploring on your own.
Which Islands to Visit
The most affordable Fiji hotels are available on the mainland of Viti Levu, with Nadi and the Coral Coast having over a dozen large beach resorts between them, mostly aimed at families - most of the large branded hotels in Fiji are found here, particularly on Denarau Island, although these are generally not recommended by us being too commercialised and not offering the genuine Fijian flavours our family business prefers to support. Their mega bucks marketing drive for high occupancy does mean you can get some good value package deals along with the crowds.
The beach resorts of the Mamanuca Islands are our preferred destinations for both families and couples. These small islands off the coast of Nadi are easy to get to with regular fast catamaran ferries taking around an hour from Port Denarau. These islands have by far nicer beaches than the mainland hotels, the lagoons are much better for watersports, you can snorkel right off the beach and the island ambience offers an unrivalled genuine Fijian hospitality - however, due to their high popularity and smaller sizes they can be booked out months in advance and prices are at a slight premium.
If you're looking for an island paradise but wanting to escape the more commercial regions, there's an ever growing selection of beautiful beach hotels in the gorgeous Yasawa Islands, about two hours scenic boat ride from Nadi , also popular amongst backpackers with its traditionally inspired budget beach resorts.
Fiji is also renowned as an exceptional scuba diving destination and there are specialist resorts to stay at particularly in the Outer Islands whether you're a diving enthusiast, casual holiday diver or learning to dive. There's great snorkelling also and some incredible surfing breaks some of which are conveniently located near the main resort regions so a bit of surfing on the side can be easily combined with a family holiday.
An Overview of Hotels in Fiji
Small boutique resorts are found all around the islands but seldom away from the coast. The outer islands of Taveuni and Kadavu have some beautiful tropical retreats with exceptional scuba diving and rainforest hikes. Fiji is a top honeymoon destination with many beautiful intimate beach resorts to celebrate!
Fiji is a great destination for family holidays - snorkelling in placid lagoons, kids clubs where the local Fijian hosts will spoil your little ones no end and a fantastic range of rooms for all budgets. Denarau Island is the most convenient with its brand hotels; the Coral Coast has the best sightseeing; whilst water lovers should head to the Mamanuca Islands which are a bit more expensive.
Head to the small islands in the Mamanucas just an hour by boat off Nadi International Airport to lounge on the beach or enjoy excellent water sports in the lagoon. There are a dozen or so small resorts on tiny coral islands and a few on larger volcanic islands with great hill top lookouts to enjoy the sunsets. You'll also find a handful of exclusive private island resorts in the Outer Islands (namely off Taveuni, off Vanua Levu and off Beqa).
Room rates at hotels in Fiji start from $120 for a standard hotel room in urban centres and anywhere from $300 to over $600 at a typical holiday resort. The small exclusive boutique resorts on private islands cost from $800 per night and up. Beautiful Pacific has access to some great rates and we pass on most of the discounts to yourself so you can make a decent saving booking with us as opposed to booking directly with the hotel.
Fiji Hotel Tax
Fiji hotel prices quoted throughout our website always include tax, which in Fiji is a whopping 20%, and are quoted for two people (this is how the resorts price themselves), unless specifically stated as being for a single person.
Credit Card Fees - Be Careful
Be careful also of credit card charges - many hotels in Fiji charge up to 5% extra just to pay for your holiday using your credit card so it's wise to check before committing yourself to a booking.
