Review of Golf Courses in the Fiji Islands

Fiji has three championship golf courses. The best of these is easily the Natadola Golf Course, built around the hills and with stunning ocean views. Denarau Golf Course is also a challenging course with lots of water and bunker hazards, but is virtually flat and without views, meandering around upmarket residences - it's not my choice of golf and a golf cart is compulsory. Unlike the manicured courses of Natadola and Denarau, Pacific Harbour Golf Course is a little rough around the edges. The course layout is spectacular with great views but the tropical climate and lack of funds has had an impact on course conditions.

Natadola Golf Club, Nadi Area, Viti Levu

By far the most beautiful golf course in Fiji, the Natadola Golf Course meanders around a hilly landscape with breathtaking ocean views. Any serious golfer will find this to be not only the nicest but also the most technical of the golf courses in Fiji. Green fees are $170 per round which includes a golf cart and there is an excellent selection of golf clubs/ shoes for hire. Open to the public.

Denarau Golf Club, Nadi Area, Viti Levu

Green fees are expensive at $150 a round although this includes compulsory golf cart. Non-playing golfers ride on the golf cart at an extra $20! Course condition is excellent. Long, flat, open fairways with a number of water hazards and plenty of coconut trees. Some mountains views and one hole close to sea. Amenities include clubhouse with bar and restaurant, pro shop, hire of brand clubs and golf shoes, golf range and professional lessons. Dress code smart. Sheraton resort just a few minutes walk away.

Pacific Harbour Country Club, Suva Area, Viti Levu

Green fees are extremely reasonable at $60 a round. Course condition is good although at present under takeover so may be neglected. Fairways are sometimes tight and undulating and the surrounding vegetation can be thick and lush. Mountain scenery. Amenities include pro shop, hire of cart and clubs, bar and restaurant.

Nadi Airport Golf Club, Nadi Bay, Viti Levu

A great choice for casual golfers is the Nadi Airport Golf Course down at Wailoaloa Beach. At $30 a round it is exceptionally good value and the front nine are amongst the prettiest holes in Fiji with great views of the ocean, the mountains. The back nine has the novelty of running alongside the airport runway so you get up close to the 747s on take-off. The greens are its main let-down and are very slow.

Nadi Beach Apartment, Nadi Bay

Nadi Beach Apartment offers two deluxe apartments less than 50 metres back from Wailoaloa Beach. With an intimate atmosphere, secluded swimming pool yet close to the beach, bars and restaurants, this offers great value for money.

Fiji Golf Club, Suva, Viti Levu

Green fees $30 a round. Course condition is good, except after heavy rains when prone to flooding. This is the club for Suva residents. It often hosts competitions and can be busy at weekends. Long, flat fairways, ample vegetation. Only 10 minutes from central Suva although the surrounding scenery is rather bland. Amenities include pro shop, club hire, bar and restaurant.
